The fine hair used in Kolinsky brushes comes from the Siberian and Manchurian Sable, also known as Kolinsky. This small animal inhabits the coldest areas of these regions which is why it has very strong and dense hair. This golden-red hair is extremely fine and resistant. These Kolinsky brushes have a wide, full body and come to a sharp point. It is the ideal hair for Artists' brushes and it's price per gram is significantly higher than gold.
